A Paintball
Outing Can Solve
The “What to
Do” Problem
For A
17-Year-Old B-Day Party
I was on the
train into the city, sitting next to my everyday
commuting partner, Tony, when he posed the
question: “What in the world am I going to do
with a dozen or so big, energetic, restless boys
coming to my son’s 17-year-old birthday party?”
It was going to
be a mid-day party, Tony said, and his son had
specifically requested that he be allowed to
invite his “guy friends” only, so that everyone
could relax and be themselves without having to
impress anyone.
“You know how
boisterous a group of boys this age can be” Tony
said. “If you don’t have some kind of planned
activity, preferably something that uses up some
of their energy, the party is going to either
die or take a wrong turn.”
“I think I
might have a suggestion for you,” I said to
Tony. “My son went to a similar party not long
ago and when he came home he raved about it. He
said it was the most fun he had ever had at a
birthday party. The key ingredient was a
‘paintball outing.”
“Paintball
outing?” Tony repeated. “I wouldn’t know where
to begin to arrange such a thing. And it sounds
very expensive.”
I told him it
doesn’t have to be because I had talked to the
father of boy who had hosted the outing and got
a lot of information. I am thinking of staging
one of these myself for my son on his next
birthday, he loved it so much.
“To begin with,
you can get some airsoft air guns for a very
reasonable price,” I said. I was told that
they were bought at
www.yoursecurityandsafety.com/airsoft.htm.
When I checked out the site
I saw that the guns in questions can also be
used as BB pistols. But what you do is buy a
supply of the different color paintball BBs to
be used in the big battle.
I told Tony
that I have heard of paintball staging areas
that you can rent by the hour to hold the event.
“The guys just
go crazy over it, my son told me” I mentioned to
Tony. “All of them are just naturally
competitive and they really like to play cops
and robbers or war games and come out the
heroes.”
“Just remember
to remind all the boys to show up wearing
clothes that they wouldn’t mind getting ruined,”
I added. “Or they can bring along a change of
clothing.
That reminder alone will
really intrigue them and guarantee 100 percent
attendance,” I said.
“Airsoft air
guns and paintball BBs are the basic
ingredients, right?” Tony asked.
“That’s it. And you might want to consider one
for yourself,” I said, “or you will miss all the
fun. I know I’m going to take part in my son’s
game.” |
