Tasers Are Saving Lives
Every Day
I used to be a taser critic. I thought
that maybe they were overkill. I have seen demonstrations
on television of people who volunteered to be tasered, and
they admitted that it hurt very much. And it certainly did
stop them cold. There are debates going on daily about
whether police are within their rights to use tasers. But
when you read about policemen and women being shot down in
the street every day, it makes you wonder if you can take
issue with any manner of self defense that protects their
lives under fire. . And now that I have heard first hand
the results of an effective use of a taser that saved a life
of a family member, well, you can imagine that maybe there
has been a shift in thinking. Isn’t that always the case?
When something hits home, suddenly you can appraise the
issue in a different light and it takes on another shade.
Maybe you need to take another look at the whole subject of
tasers.
I have, and I am a taser fan and an
admirer of what a taser can do in circumstances that call
for some drastic action. And yes, I now own one, a Taser
C2, and have learned to use it. I can’t tell you what a
difference in makes in your level of self confidence.
The incident I refer to above involved
one of my nephews. I will call him Todd. Todd works for a
city service company that takes him outdoors a lot, and in
some cases to some neighborhoods that even the city admits
are considered dangerous. He has no choice but to go into
those areas. As a protective device, he got permission to
carry a taser with him in case he did run into any trouble.
And yes, trouble found him one hot day
in the form of two young men who had obviously been drinking
and thought they spotted a vulnerable target. As they came
near, my nephew made sure he had his hand on the taser,
which he kept in his vehicle. He was only going to use it
if absolutely necessary. He quickly found that it was going
to be necessary. Maybe necessary enough to save his life.
Both young men pulled out switchblade
knives and began threatening my nephew. They threatened the
wrong person, because he is pretty good at defending
himself. Of course, the knives put him at a disadvantage,
but it was a situation that all would no doubt agree
supported the use of a taser. The fact that the young men
were drunk allowed my nephew to make quick work of them with
the help of the taser, and the police supported his
actions. As a matter of fact, they lauded his actions.
My nephew also carried the Taser C2,
and it worked great. It can handle a threat up to 15 feet
away and has great stopping power. It shoots out two darts
attached to 15 feet of wire, sending out 50,000 volts,
enough to disable any attacker. Over 500,000 people
worldwide use it for self-defense.
